Raku sculpture, stoneware, electric kiln, coiling technique, textured
When observing people on the street I often notice that almost everyone is staring at their mobile phones, their bodies bent forward and isolated from those around them. I noticed one old man at the bus stop who stood, holding his walking stick in both hands, and appeared to be in deep thought. He seemed to be trying to stand very straight, despite the crook in his spine. He stared into the space in front of him, appearing completely at peace. He didn’t stress, he didn’t rush, and wasn’t busy with phones like the others around him. He was in his own world – a space all for himself.
